There is now an alternative to driving your Miata with the top down and still being hot and uncomfortable. The issue with the Miata is that there is plenty of air, but it cannot get into the foot wells and you end up hot. With the Cool Breeze Scoop(TM) you will have fresh outside air being forced the foot wells and cooling you below the waist. The scoop uses the concept of piercing the high pressure created by the forward movement of the car. The hot low pressure air that is trapped is displaced with cooler air from the outside. The Scoop was designed for the Miata by a Miata owner who got tired of sticking his hand over the windshield or out the window trying to keep cool by scooping air into the car and wanted to share it with you. Over 7000 + Scoops have been sold and being enjoyed by Miata Owners around the world since it's became available in June, 2006.  I'd like to invite you to try it for 15 days, with my 100% No questions asked, money back guarantee you can see for yourself. If you drive a Miata with the top down and still feel hot, this is the product for you.

The Cool Breeze Scoop(TM) is non-obtrusive and is an easy on / easy off accessory, not a car modification. It is like putting on a pair of sun glasses, it's a personal accessory to keep you cool. It does not interfere with the mirror or visibility. It is hardly even noticeable when it's being used, most say it gives the car a racy edge look of a F1 scoop. It is small enough to be easily stored in your glove box and installed in seconds from the drivers seat inside the car.

The Cool Breeze Scoop(TM) is manufactured to automotive standards. The size and dimensions were designed to give you an air flow that will cool, but not make you feel like you're sitting in a wind storm at 70 MPH. The air flow is progressive as it is scavenged from above the windshield. You'll begin to feel the air flow at 10 MPH. The Scoop includes a Bug Screen Retaining Rod and Diverting wedge.

The Cool Breeze Scoop(TM) does not require  permanent installation. ( On / Off in 10 seconds ) from the drivers seat. The retaining rod drops into the groove in the gasket of the windshield header. On your first use, you will stick two 3M Dual Lock (TM)  adhesive disks on the windshield header trim piece inside and they will remain there to attach the scoop anytime you wish to use it. The disks can be peeled off anytime with no holes or damage.

The Cool Breeze Scoop(TM) can be traded-in if you trade models.

The Cool Breeze Scoop(TM) is molded from an automotive ABS / Polycarbonate composite plastic. It is non-reflective Black with a textured finish. It can be primed and painted in a color of your choice with flexible bumper paint, but looks great the way it is delivered.

Use Air Conditioning ?? The Cool Breeze Scoop(TM) works in conjunction with the A/C to give you even more cooling by distributing it into the lower part of the cockpit. As the incoming air flow passes the center vents it picks up the flow from them and carries it into the foot wells and your lower body.

The Cool Breeze Scoop (TM) is US Patented # 7,481,177

          Short Installation Instructions

1.     Lube Gasket Groove. ( Silicone Lube, 303 or Armor- All )

2.     Clean header area where Dual Lock disks stick ( 2" on either side of the mirror or light ) Use a glass cleaner or Windex. Clean and Dry. Do the same with the Alcohol Swab and DRY.

3.     From the drivers seat, spread the gasket with your fingers, drop the rod to the bottom of the gasket groove and rotate the scoop into position.

4.     Center the scoop and remove the backing from the Dual Lock and  allow them to stick. A light pressure will help it to stick. Do not touch or rub the adhesive against anything.

5.     Twist out on the wings to release the Dual Lock and use your fingers to help. Apply a light pressure to the disk on the header to make sure it's sticking. It takes 48- 72 hrs to be at full strength. On the NC you just pull out on the bottom of the scoop.

6.     Re-install the scoop from the drivers seat, drop in the rod, push up on the pads and Enjoy.

7.     To remove scoop, Twist out on the wings and rotate scoop up.

 Sticking Dual Lock Disks

The adhesive on the disks is a modern adhesive and it is
very strong. You must use the correct technique to get them to hold . This is the best product money can but from 3M.

 A couple tips.

1) Clean the area well, Windex or a glass cleaner is good.
Dry the area. Keep using a clean portion of paper towel or you will re-infect the area with silicone.

2) Use the alcohol swab and DRY with a paper towel.

3) The header must be at least 68 Deg. ( if the car has been inside all night chances it's not ) Use a hairdryer to warm
the header if it's not.

4) Line the scoop up and slide the disk into position without allowing the scoop to lock to it. Allow disk to stick to the header, hold in place and slide the scoop away and apply a light upward pressure to the disk with you're thumb. The pressure will spread the adhesive into the high and low texture if the plastic and break the micro beads adhesive.
The adhesive is migrating and will spread for 24-48 hrs or so.

5) The first 24 hrs you can use you're finger nails to separate the disks. Usually this not necessary, just twist outward on
the wings and the disks will separate at a angle easier than they will by pulling straight down. That makes the mushroom heads on the Dual Lock peel apart and will make them last longer, they have a 10,000 cycle life.

I install them at Miata meets and I have had a few that it
took me several try's and they are a one shot deal. Once
the adhesive is rubbed or touched it loses it tack and will
not stick. They are 3M, the best money can buy, but they
are picky.

Rod Insertation and Install for use !!

To Insert the retaining Rod into the gasket groove. From the Drivers Seat !! Center the scoop on the header. Insert your fingers into the gasket groove at the end of the rod. Spread the gasket by pulling back toward you and take your index fingers and stuff the rod into the groove. Press on the Dual lock pads and the scoop is locked on and ready to use. You should hear and feel the tactile snap as the heads of the Dual Lock goes together.

Any silicone lube will make the rod easier to install. We include 303 protectant with each scoop, apply to the rod and gasket groove. It will soak in the first couple times you do it, after that a couple times a year.

I found a tip on Miata.net from " The Captain " to use Liquid Soap as a lube, I tried it and it works great.

Installation Instructions for NA / NB Miata

To install the Scoop, first you should lube the gasket ( 8-10 “ in the Middle ). Any silicone lube is ok, Armor-All, 303 etc. is fine, liquid dish detergent will also work. This will allow the rod to slide into the gasket groove easily.

From the Drivers Seat,  Center the scoop on the header. Set the rod over the gap in the gasket, Take your fingers ( both hands ) and insert them in the gasket groove at the tips of the rod on both sides to spread the gasket and roll it back toward you. Take your index fingers and apply a downward pressure on the rod tips so the rod will enter the gasket and go all the way to the bottom. A somewhat side to side movement of the rod and a rocking motion will help it slide into the groove. Once the rod is in the groove the scoop will slide back and forth very easily, it is important it seats to the bottom of the groove the whole length

of the retaining rod. You can take your finger tips and feel the ends of the retaining rod are on the bottom of the gasket groove. Now pull the Scoop down to and under  the trim piece, make sure the Scoop is centered and is touching the gasket on the sides, not too far in or the air will be hitting to far up on the dash. On the first install, you are going to install the Dual Lock (tm) disks to the header trim piece.

 Notice: !!!!

If you have used Armorall (tm) or any type of a silicone treatment on your trim piece you must clean it off the area where the disk will stick. Windex or a bathroom cleaner will remove it. The Dual Lock(tm) disk will not stick if it is left on. The cleaner it is the better it will stick. It will not stick well below 68 degs, sit the car outside and let it warm up some. A hair dryer can also be used to warm the area where it will stick.

When you have selected the centered position, you will be able to see where the Dual Lock (tm) disk will be stuck to the trim piece. Take the alcohol swap and wipe the area where the disk will be stuck. The swab will remove any wax or silicone treatment you have used on the trim piece. This will give the disk better adhesion. Make sure it's dry.  Remove the backing from the disk. Once you're happy with it's position, you can allow the disk stick to the trim. Do Not touch or allow the adhesive to rub against the header or the tack will dull and it will not stick.  The disk cannot be repositioned.  Use a even upward pressure on the pads to allow the Disk’s to stick.

They will be left there permanently and will be used each time you install the Scoop and holds the Scoop in place. Push in on the attaching pads so that it will stick to the trim piece. That's all there is to the installation.

To remove the Scoop, twist out on the bottom edge of the wings the pads are attached to,so the Dual Lock (tm) will release .  After the pads release,  gently pull up and the retaining rod will release from the gasket groove.

This first time, take your thumb and push up and rub the disk and make sure it is sticking to the trim header piece. (Pressing the disk will activate the adhesive, it has micro-encapsulated adhesive that will set up in 72 hrs. to reach full strength, but can be used at once.)

You're now ready to use the Scoop anytime you like. From the Drivers Seat,  Center the scoop on the header. Take your middle fingers and insert them in the gasket groove at the tips of the rod on both sides to spread the gasket. Take your index fingers and apply a downward pressure on the rod tips so the rod will enter the gasket make sure it seats all the way to the bottom and slide it to the center and pull down on the bottom and push on the Dual Lock(tm)  Pads to engage, you will feel a tactile snap as the heads engage and you're good to go. Always do a pull check and make sure that the Scoop is attached firmly and the retaining rod is in the bottom of the groove, taking your finger tips and touching the ends of the rod you will feel that it is all the way to the bottom of the groove. Once you are familiar with the installation and removal, you can accomplish it in 5-10 seconds from the drivers seat. A little silicone lube rubbed on the rod and gasket will aid the insertation of the retaining rod if it's hard to get in.

Pull Check !!!

We have included extra Dual Lock (tm) disks so you can use the Scoop in another car or replace the ones you use, should they become worn.

Safety is a big concern to us. If the attaching retaining rod is damaged, the Scoop could fly off at speed. We will replace any Scoop free of charge that has any damage and Dual Lock  (tm) disks are available.
